Suicide Awareness Walk 2022

Benefiting suicide awareness and education through the SAM Foundation
Why we walk
We walk for those we love who we have lost and those who are still with us. The first Suicide Awareness Walk in Brookside was 2021 where the community raised $6,288.00 to help support educational trainings hosted by the SAM Foundation teaching how to interview in a crisis.
Shelly Doss first approached the SAM Foundation wanting to help spread awareness after the loss of a dear friend, Mary Lynn Gray.
Mary had a servants heart, she thrived on keeping a smile on others faces and helping others through hard times. Shelly and her friends couldn’t think of a better way to keep Mary's memory and kindness to help others alive than to create a walk in her memory to support the SAM foundation and educate others on suicide an mental health awareness.
Mary was a light to so many in her community and her loss is felt greatly throughout. Shelly is continuing the walk to continue to raise funds for the public educational programs to help others recognize signs so that they can intervene in a crisis. She walks to remember those who have been lost, those who survived and those she loves. Why do you walk?
Start a team in remembrance of someone or register WITHOUT a team. We just want to see your beautiful face on event day.
Help us raise funds by reaching out to individuals or companies to sponsor the event or donate towards our goal.
Spread awareness by telling others about what you've learned and maybe attend one of the SAM Foundation's free QPR trainings.
Come to the walk and support others and learn about the SAM Foundation.
We want everyone to register for the event online as we will send updates via the information you provide. You DO NOT have to be a part of a team to attend this event. You will be provided with a P2P site you can personalize which will allow you to fund raise and check your fundraising status, if you choose to help fundraise. If you choose not to fundraise you can ignore the P2P email after registering for the event.
Teams will help fundraise for the event.
Teams will compete for bragging rights to see who can raise the most funds for the event. After registering, you will be sent an email granting access to the P2P portal to keep up with how much is raised. You will be able to personalize your page with details about why you walk or a little about your team. Please, always check your spam email box for emails.

#SuicideAwarenessWalk2022
The mission of the SAM Foundation is to prevent suicide through public awareness and education by equipping our communities with the skills to intervene in a suicidal crisis. Our hope is to change the way our communities view mental health and serve as a resource to those who have been affected by suicide and therefore making our communities more suicide safe.
The SAM Foundation believes all members of communities play a vital role in suicide prevention. Through our evidence based trainings, the SAM Foundation reaches a variety of community members, corporate groups, educators, first responders and mental health professionals. The problem of suicide is considered a national epidemic and these trainings provide the tools and resources to combat this problem.
The SAM Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3. Check out the SAM Foundation here.
