Hello everyone,

We hope your summer is everything you hoped it would be and if it hasn't been, then know that is OK and remember tomorrow is a new day. Albert Einstein said, “Learn from yesterday, live for today and hope for tomorrow.” Strive to do a little more each day to lift your spirits and remember Rome was not built in a day.

If you need a break from the world, we have some great events coming up that you can look forward to! Our August concert is Saturday, August 6 in Milton, GA. Two community members in Jefferson County, Alabama and DeKalb County, Alabama have taken on the tasks of hosting walks to benefit the foundation. There will be entertainment and fun for all at these events.

Over 300 individuals and professionals have been trained in suicide awareness and prevention this year alone through The SAM Foundation and we are expecting the next three months to be packed with large trainings.

Upcoming training opportunities!

We have a training scheduled for the Alabama State Bar on August 16 and 17th and 12 trainings virtual and in person QPR Gatekeeper trainings for students and staff of Kennesaw State University's Kennesaw and Marietta campuses. Virtual Training Tuesdays are still on the calendar and available for everyone no matter your background or where you are in life. Our team will be speaking at the COBB Collaborative Membership Meeting in September. September also has 2 big trainings for the public, the ASIST and AMSR trainings. September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month!

These educational trainings are provided for free or at a reduced cost and provide life saving skills to intervene when someone is suicidal; CEUs are available for these trainings. We continue to add trainings to our calendar. If you don't see a training you are looking for just send us an email, and we will let you know when one is available or put one on the calendar so you can participate. You can also make a tax-deductible donation to help us continue these for free or at a reduced cost.

We have two walks being hosted by community members on September 10 and September 25 in Alabama. Please see information below for those! They are now allowing individuals, sponsors and teams to sign up online at the event page provided. Contact us if you would be interested in hosting your own walk to benefit the SAM Foundation.

Public Wellness Webinar

We have partnered with Solid Ground Counseling to provide a 90-minute Mental Wellness Webinar via zoom on August 26. Here is a summary of what the webinar will include:

"Taking care of our mental health is paramount to our overall wellbeing. Unfortunately, we are not always aware of how exactly to do so. We end up dealing with the effects of unbalanced or deteriorating mental health through missed days at work, lacking motivation, and unhelpful downtime. The Mental Wellness Webinar is designed to raise awareness of how the outside world is impacting our mental health. Throughout the webinar we discuss what stress is, how to recognize and be more mindful of its effects, identify and develop a beneficial self-care routine, and learn what coping skills are and how to effectively implement them. At the end of the webinar participants should have a greater understanding of why taking care of our mental health is important and should be able to apply the learned strategies to create a healthier mental state."

If this interest you sign up HERE, SAM Foundation sponsored the first 10 signed up and those spots are claimed, however you can still attend for $100 and learn some important skills regarding your wellbeing.

Thanks to you The SAM Foundation is keeping Sam's story alive through education and awareness of suicide. We are forever grateful for your love and support through your feedback, shares and donations.

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is a two-day interactive workshop in suicide first aid. ASIST teaches participants to recognize when someone may have thoughts of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety. Although ASIST is widely used by healthcare providers, participants don't need any formal training to attend the workshop— anyone 16 or older can learn and use the ASIST model.
